iRefix... Cynikal + Debbie Aramide - What's My Name (Rihanna Cover)

Check out this new refix/cover of Rihanna's smash hit 'What's My Name?' that London-based emerging Hip-Hop artist and producer, Cynikal just shot my way. It features emerging singer/song-writer Debbie Aramide on the hook...

What do you reckon? I like Cynikal as a rapper and I enjoy his flow and lyrics on this one but something about Ms. Aramide on the hook just doesn't work for me. I can't quite place my fingers on it BUT she didn't really own it, did she? I was starting to feel her lil adlibing at the end of the song though... Maybe you can tell me what was missing, if anything at all?

iTUNE... Los Rakas + Faviola - Abrazame (Gyptian's Hold Yuh Cover)

I was just browsing through The Fader's Listomania 2010 and I bumped into this on one of their lists & I was completely blown away! As far as covers or refixes go and especially of this song that has had bucket loads of covers/refixes in 2010, this ONE is damn near perfect! I wouldn't go as far as saying it's better than the original Gyptian song BUT I definitely prefer this one right now!!! Listen to NY Producer, Uproot Andy add his twist to the tune right after as well, do NOT skip it!!!

Los Rakas are an emerging Latin Dancehall/Reggae/Hip-Hop/Alternative group hailing from Panama who now reside in California and you can SHOULD peep the official video for the Uproot Andy remix of this HUGE banger right below!

Damn I really need to learn how to DJ going into 2011 because damn how can you know about this tune and NOT drop it in between your set? I don't get it! Anyway...

Something about his music and his lyrics is just so compelling, I haven't lived the life BUT I can totally relate to the emotion and the stories he tries to convey... Plus you'll be seeing and hearing more of him on this here blog as well as our sister blog so keep your eyes and ears peeled!

New music from Nigerian-based EME signee Skales by way of a Christmas song to appreciate the season we're in right now. Lemme let you listen to the record

#ThankGodItsChristmas

iChristmas... Mo'Cheddah - Keresimesi

"Its been a fantastic year for the Franchise Celebrity. With multiple award nominations, two major African Awards (Channel O for Most Gifted Female and MTV for Best New Act), one Nigerian Entertainment Award (Most Promising Act), becoming the 1st Nigerian to be showcased on MTV's Brand New Initiative, the release of her debut album and several lucrative performances; including one for the president, Mo'Cheddah can only thank God all the way. Last year she released her Christmas album (a Nigerian 1st) and this year, after becoming the Youngest Nigerian to take home a MAMA Award, she closes the year out with a new Christmas song to add to her earlier Christmas compilation. 'Keresimesi' is a play on a popular Yoruba carol. With DJ Klem on instrumentals and the usual Knighthouse touch, this one goes out to everyone celebrating the season today." - Knighthouse Creative

iCover... Kenzie May - Kids Medley (MGMT, Chiddy Bang, Jay-Z + More Cover)

This right here has gotta be one of my favourite Youtube cover renditions of the year. Kola Bello put me on to this lady a few months ago and my sincere apologies for NOT sharing this with you earlier. She goes through six popular songs from MGMT to Sam Adams to Jay-Z and I really enjoyed this... I absolutely love this woman as an artist. Gonna try my hardest to get her to One Mic in the new year (fingers crossed)

iAfrobeat... Tosin Martins - Silent Night (Video)

iMust admit that when I first saw this doing the rounds on Twitter earlier on in the week, iThought it was gonna be just another cover of a Christmas song so I kinda overlooked it BUT it popped up on my Youtube Subscription feed and I thought I'd check it out... I'm glad I did, who can resist a good Afro-beat musical backdrop? Those drum patterns? Those Horns? I'm not even hearing the words/lyrics to this (no offence), I'm just vibezing to the music!

iConversations... Teddy Riley x SoulCulture UK

"In the second excerpt from our recent interview, Teddy Riley talks to SoulCulture TV in London about the “final four” members of Blackstreet and their plans to “go out with a bang”, with three songs currently complete for their new album along with their forthcoming "incredible" re-make of ‘Heaven Can Wait’, from Michael Jackson‘s Invincible album. Riley also speaks on the other Blackstreet members’ trust in his judgement, using their lack of belief in their 2006 single ”No Diggity” [resulting in Teddy singing the first verse] and its subsequent platinum success as an example of his vision coming through. Attributing Blackstreet’s success to their willingness to cater to their fans, he goes on to explain the hurdles that prevented the Guy comeback from going any further." - SoulCulture Media
Cannot wait to hear this new Blackstreet material, I hope it's as amazing as he says it is!!!

iDocumentary... Michael Jordan: Invincible (Trailer)

A documentary filled with Michael Jordan's court highlights? You've gotta love it even though it's Indie and has to be said, unauthorized from the man himself. German Film-maker and Editor, LK12 Productions has set himself the huge task of depicting Michael Jordan's Airness in 10-20 minutes to be released in 2011 and I for one am NOT mad at that!!!

My only problem with it is in the credits where it says 'A Michael Jordan Film', please DO NOT deceive the people with some mockery! Other than that, I like the idea and the trailer is tres DOPE, in fact it's more than dope, it's AWESOME is what it is! I've watched it quite a few times already! The man was a BEAST! Every Jordan fan & any basketball fan in general will enjoy this & maybe the new kids will get it right once and for all who the greatest ever basketball player really is!

iPoetry... GREEDS + James Massiah + Dean Atta + Deanna Rodger + Hollie McNish + Indigo Williams = ???

The details are sketchy right about now but pictures hitting the web a couple days ago suggest a new collective is about to stake claim and take hold of the UK's Spoken Word scene in 2011! Individually, Greeds, Dean Atta, Deanna Rodger, James Massiah, Indigo Williams and Hollie McNish are amongst the very best spoken word artists in the London scene at the moment and iDare to think what kinda amazingness this collaborative venture will spring forth... We'll have to keep our eyes peeled, won't we?

In the meantime, hit the jump to check out some of my favourite pieces from some of the members of this supposed "collective" and JUST imagine the creative possibilities...

iRecommend... Adrienne Mack-Davis - Let Go

Taken from the free album 'Music In Me: The Process' released back in May, from this rather intriguing NY-based emerging Soul/R&B singer, Adrienne Mack-Davis, 'Let Go' should definitely go straight into your iPod, iTunes, Mobile Phone and/or MP3 player. It's an amazing song and I cannot get enough of it and Mikey Fresh on production is pure class! Check it out below & get your FREE downloads before you leave...

iAlbum... Iman Williams - Stupid Human Tricks

I'm a good two weeks late with this BUT amazing Soulful Hip-Hop artist/singer Iman Williams blessed us with her brand NEW album at the end of last month and it is really and truly a breathe of fresh air to listen to this album which excels at encompassing and merging Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk and Electro music effortlessly to create an opus of a record. iPerformance... Iwan Rheon - Tongue Tied (at The Bedford)

I bet you didn't know that Simon (the weird one lol) from the E4 hit series Misfits, real name Iwan Rheon was/is a Singer/Songwriter when he's not being a small screen hearthrob... I didn't know this either until I bumped into some footage from Lizzie Evan's blog of Mr. Rheon or shall I say Simon performing his somewhat popular single, 'Tongue Tied'at The Bedford in Balham, London. Check it ot below...

So I did a bit more digging and I found that the song above is off of the 25-year old Welsh singer's 'Tongue Tied' EP which you can get your hands on HERE for just £3!

iMusic... Noonakai - All My Journeys

"A band based in the northern city of Leeds from where they have overseen the propagation of their delightful new song on both printed sheets and wax cylinders to be enjoyed at leisure in households across the nation. 'All My Journeys' is a simple song - a few chords on Rhodes keyboard and guitar, sampled strings, drums but no bass and Karen Pirie's heartbreaking vocal. 'All My Journeys' is Air without the aloofness, quiet but passionate." - Press Release

I LOVE THIS! I can go ahead and conjure up some smart and witty words to describe this song as most bloggers usually do BUT the press blurb above said it best. This is a simple song but everything about it works and those vocals are doing it for me right now! Noonakai are doing it for me right now and you can check out the B-side to 'All My Journeys' aptly titled 'Escape To...' right below which is described as an "Instrumental with Echoes of Air"...

iNaija... Show Dem Camp + May D - Farabale (Video)

Slick NEW visuals from Show Dem Camp for their 'Farabale' single featuring the one they call May-D. The beat on this one GOES Hard and iThink I like the song now after watching the video. Who says visuals don't have a purpose? I still wish we had more rap verses on this and May-D had a shorter verse, maybe the song just needs to be longer??? I propose a remix with May-D strictly on the hook + bridge and a few more rap verses! Godwin, Wale let's do this!

iMusic... Jesse Boykins III - B4 The Nite Is Thru

“B4 The Night Is Thru is about looking for someone to share love in rhythm. When producer Machine Drum and I created this tune it started as conversation on how you go out just to party and dance the night away; but how hard it is to find that someone to move with because of culture of the time we’ve living in. The song is merely reminiscent of those times when you could dance with someone you didn’t know all night with no pressure, no expectations… just the rhythm and movement.” – Jesse Boykins III
