Last month, 33 UK music blogs - including Breaking More Waves, My Band Is Better Than Your Band, The Recommender, Music Fans Mic and God Is In The TV and more of course - got together to create their own long list of artists they believe will make it big in 2012 and called it "The Blog Sound of 2012" to rival the BBC's Sound of 2012 list - call it an antithesis if you will. The Guardian calls it the "alternative new talent suggestions" and here are their Top 5 artists for the Blog Sound of 2012.
5. Daughter
4. French Wives
2. Theme Park
1. Friends
I'm pleased Daughter made the Top 5 because she was one of my favorite artists of 2011 and she will do smashingly amazing in 2012. The BBC missed a trick there by not including her in their list. Newcastle singer Beth Jean Houghton is also high on our radar and it's glad to see her in the Top 5 also. I like Friends a lot so I'm happy they are high up there, hopefully they live up to it as the year progresses.
#PS when I asked Bill Cummings of God Is In The TV - who contacted us to share this Blog Sound of 2012 list on our platform - why there were no UK Hip-Hop/Grime/R&B/Soul (or "urban" if you want) blogs in the list of 33 blogs that were asked to take part in this exercise, I was met with no response. Blogs like Soulculture UK, DJ Semtex and Hip-Hop Chronicle UK are some of the biggest music blogs in the UK period - urban, indie or otherwise - so if we want to get an all encompassing Blog Sound of, surely these blogs must be asked to take part.
