iListen... G.R.E.Ed.S - Rise (London Riots)

UK Spoken Word artist G.R.E.Ed.S comes with some poignant and profound words in his latest spoken word piece titled "Rise" sparked by the recent 4-day riots. Sampling Seun Kuti's "Rise" and taking an excerpt from this West Indian woman who stood up to Hackney looters and rioters on Monday's riot, G.R.E.Ed.S paints a very clear and disturbing picture of a Britain torn apart by disconnected leaders, misguided youths and covert racism. He also has a direct message for the UK government and the country's youths, I implore you to listen below...

iFootage... G.R.E.Eds x ILUVLIVE x MAY 16

UK-based spoken word artist G.R.E.Eds took the "Year of the Poet" that bit closer to the mainstream earlier this week (May 16) when he performed at mainstream urban showcase ILUVLIVE. Film-maker Henry Robinson was on hand to capture the action as G.R.E.Eds performed pieces from his critically acclaimed debut album Volume In Silence as well as from his 2010 Sampler series mixtape and by all accounts of the footage, it was ALOT plus I dunno where Mr. Sode pulled Kat B from but that was a helluva good look!

iPoetry... GREEDS + James Massiah + Dean Atta + Deanna Rodger + Hollie McNish + Indigo Williams = ???

The details are sketchy right about now but pictures hitting the web a couple days ago suggest a new collective is about to stake claim and take hold of the UK's Spoken Word scene in 2011! Individually, Greeds, Dean Atta, Deanna Rodger, James Massiah, Indigo Williams and Hollie McNish are amongst the very best spoken word artists in the London scene at the moment and iDare to think what kinda amazingness this collaborative venture will spring forth... We'll have to keep our eyes peeled, won't we?

In the meantime, hit the jump to check out some of my favourite pieces from some of the members of this supposed "collective" and JUST imagine the creative possibilities...

The good folks at Allaboutgoodmusic are preparing to turn the city of Manchester OUT with some quality live music this Sunday! The line-up that they've put together is immensely dope and that's putting it very lightly. They've managed to get one of the best London-based live bands around, The Remedies to play at their gig. That in itself is a treat worth any money but if only that were all, they also have The Mouse Outfit, GREEDS & Shakka playing at this gig...
