The clip shows an aged Nelson Mandela, though the film will mostly portray his younger days as a fighter against white political supremacy. Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is a drama based on the South African President Nelson Mandela's autobiography written by himself, which shows an insight of his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming the first democratically elected President of South Africa.
The film highlights how Mandela spent his lifetime fighting for the rights of black Africans and how he supported all efforts to enable groups to learn about one another also working to rebuild the country's once segregated society. Speaking about the role earlier this year, Elba said: "I learnt a lot about the man and his life, and I learnt a lot about sacrifice."
Idris Elba (Prometheus) stars as Nelson Mandela with Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) directing. The film also stars Naomie Harris, Tony Kgoroge, Jamie Bartlett and Lindiwe Matshikiza.
