iMixtape... LUNCHBOX THEORY - AFRICA AFRICA AFRICA (Part 3)

"The debut of this mixtape was the spark of a new style of African based sonics and a new movement into the realm of afrobeat. "Its about the progression of the dance". There is no sonic comparison to these mixes. There are so many elements fused between the notes. This release signifies the next step in the evolution. As the groove continues, watch this space, and bring a change of clothes." - Lunchbox Theory
<a href="http://lunchboxtheory.bandcamp.com/album/africa-frica-frica-3">AFℝICA &#9751;FRICA இFRICA 3 by Lunchbox Theory</a>

This is that facking goodness! As a blogger, iLive for moments like these! Of course I get excited for that new Kanye/Jay-Z or that new Mark Ronson (the record with Boy George is near enough heaven btw) but this is what it's all about for me... Discovering new underground and emerging music! This mixtape right here is Afrobeat at its core but it treads into dance, house, soul & hip-hop territories with great success, sampling a wide spectrum of artists and musicians from Erykah Badu to Fela Kuti and everyone in between including the likes of Terri Walker, Wasiu Ayinde Barrister (Yup that's right!) & Nebraska! This is amazing trust me!

Download: Lunchbox Theory - Africa Africa Africa (Part 3)

I think my head is gonna fall off my neck with all the head-bopping this mixtape is causing! You need this one spinning at the next house party, rave or dance!

"Amede Soundsmith (real name, Amede Unuabona), a 20 year-old, singer and producer hailing from the docks of London. Coming from an African household with him being the first in his family to have a zeal for music, it took Amede Soundsmith a little while before his parents could see that their talented son wanted to do this for real! Exposed to the mélange of sounds & cultures in London, this guy has been working on creating a sound with signature electrorganic edge for your eardrums!" - Amede Soundsmith

iMusic... 100 Akres - The Billy Ocean Beat Tape

"Here are my latest works designed to damage the muscles in your neck. Billy Ocean's 1984 album, Suddenly, had gems such as Caribbean Queen and Mystery Lady. Those tracks initially drew me to flip and chop the living sh*t out of this LP. This time around I even remixed Mos Def's Priority (from the Ecstatic album) over one of these Billy Ocean slappers and the outcome....well, let's just say its what made Billy utter the words 'This sh*t is bananas!'" - 100 Akres
This brother just cannot stop! First the Cyndi Lauper Beat tape and then the New Edition Beat tape and now this? All I'll say is hit the play button and listen differently!

iFootage... John Legend x The Roots - Shine (Studio Performance)

"SoulCulture UK exclusive: John Legend & The Roots Perform "Shine" Live In Studio. Taken from the forthcoming album Wake Up! which features soulful music from the 60's and 70's all with an underlying theme of awareness, engagement and consciousness. "Shine" is the one original composition on the album. John Legend's song "Shine," which is featured in Academy Award-winning director Davis Guggenheim's upcoming documentary film Waiting for Superman. The song, a "Stevie-Wonder-meets-gospel" stunner, clearly demonstrates the strengths of this specific group of musicians. Wake Up! blends Legend's expressive, thoughtful vocal interpretations with an element of funk that only The Roots can provide." - Soul Culture Media

#Shouts to Soulculture for shooting this over

Thank God for John Legend's life because I really dunno what that 'Evolver' album was all about! However this album sounds so good already from the records we've heard so far, it's good to know Mr. Legend isn't fading away

John Legend & The Roots - Wake Up is out in the US on September 21st

Enjoy...

iVideo... Bracket + Tuface - Remember (Yori Yori Remix)

I remember seeing this video of this lush remix of 'Remember' by Nigerian duo, Bracket & the big homie, Tuface Idibia, about a week ago and thinking I wanted to post this up but you know how these things go, I just totally forgot! Anyway I was trawling through some Nigerian music blogs and I saw it again so here you go... I really love this song!

iMusic... X.O Senavoe - The Power

Brand new Kid Konnect produced single titled 'The Power' from Nigerian emcee X.O Senavoe, who's left the Nigerian music scene in a mad frenzy over the last six months. Now this is the first record from X.O that I'm actually really feeling. On previous records, his lyrics and word-play were undeniable as with this record also but now he's switched up his flow so much and its all coming together. Anyway check out 'The Power' right below... You need to steady hit that replay button for a while to catch all of the wordplay on this one.

"My verse is so bloody, Angels pass over like it's passover..." - X.O Senavoe - The Power

iSingle... K'Jon - Good Morning

Now up until a few minutes ago, I had no idea who K'Jon was & that just goes to show the plethora of music out there that goes criminally unnoticed by loads of us but alas I digress... So about K'Jon...
"K’Jon is best known for his #1 hit single On the Ocean from his 2009 debut full length major album I Get Around, which debuted at #1 on the R&B album charts! According to the New York Times, K’Jon’s album was “One of the years most promising albums, and also one of its least expected.” K’Jon’s smash single On the Ocean set a record for having the longest running single on Billboard’s Hot R&B /Hip Hop song which was 75 weeks, surpassing platinum selling artist Mary J Blige’s single “Be Without You”.  With a compilation of soul infused ballads, this album is the epitome of class and passion which is why Billboard listed it as one of the Top 50 R&B albums of 2009…these are undoubtedly noteworthy accomplishments!" - Maranda Oliver
Yeah, this fella K'Jon is about his business as it goes! Anyway he's back with the lead single 'Good Morning' off of his sophomore album 'Oxygen' and it's not even bad at all. Check it out right below

And if you (like me) have not heard of K'Jon until now then we've packaged some music from his debut album right after the jump

iVideo... Judah - Sundresses & Sandals (An Ode to True Blood)

"A typically ingenious and conceptually enchanting, the producer whose vision is 20/20 through sight and sound delivers another great visual from Simple Videos, based on the hit HBO SeriesTrue Blood. JUDAH goes on a sexy rendezvous with co-star Brittani for an unconventional depiction for the popular song "Sundresses and Sandals" filled with flesh, fondling, and "fangs." Also featured in the video is Chays, the R&B singer who has gained recognition for his vocal contribution for the track. JUDAH, whose concrete-cinematic music production has spawned several supreme images during 2010, pushes "Sundresses and Sandals" (Ode to True Blood) as the second video released from Simple Videos." - Sasha Vann (Ego M&BC)

Wow iJust looked at this blog and it looks as if I took the weekend off? Apologies. I'll be sure to catch up with whatever goodness the weekend bore but alas I digress... Remember THIS? Well Luck-One is BACK!

"Portland's top-notch lyricist Luck-One returns with the soulful, feel-good anthem 'More!'. Sit back, relax and get ready to remember why you fell in love with Hip-Hop. In a time riddled with gimmick singles and ring-tone tunes, 'More' is an introspective journey laced with masterful lyricism and a soul-funk musical background that takes us back to a time when music and honesty were synonymous... Or, is Luck-One taking us forward?" - Spread Label Music

Brand NEW Luck-One single for us to bump with! The free EP 'True Theory Outtakes' will be upon is in October (4th to be precise) so make sure you come back here for that as well!

"DJ Ironik is due to release his 5th single, entitled ‘Falling In Love’, off his forthcoming second album. The melodic ballad features Canadian actress Jessica Lowndes (who plays Adrianna in hit teen series 90210), making her recorded debut before the release of her own album." - Press Release

We all know the formula now so if a UK Number 1 Single is really the reason you're doing music then you already know what to do!

On the other hand, Jessica Lowndes wins in that urban outfit (not the purple dress lol) BUT iSwear NY was supposed to be on this record? I guess she's not a suitable variable in the #UKNumber1Single formula? Who knows?

iVideo... The Quotes - Innocent Flow

"From day one, the Reading four-piece have attracted media attention, and their constant gigging and prestigious festival appearances – not to mention album and EP releases – have earned them a well-established fan base. Their epic, sexy and polished rock sound has caught the inspiration of many a radio DJ, promoter and – most importantly – music fan." - The Quotes

YET another great find via twitter! I'm absolutely loving it! So The Quotes are a 4-piece UK-based Rock Band hailing from Reading and 'Innocent Flow' is their brand new single. It took me one listen and I'm already in love with the record. The guitar-strings start the song & I'm thinking 'ok sounds good but...' and then the vocals by lead singer Ben Smith kick in with 'Baby are you cold in Snow...' and I'm immediately sold! Nothing beats a great vocal lead-singer in a band and yes the guitar-strings that form the bulk of the musical backdrop on this record is quite amazing too... Anyway what am I tryna say? This record WINS!

iMash... Wait What x Jay-Z x Something Corporate - Making Konstantine Cry

"The follow up to the notorious xx, 'this is real life' seamlessly blends familiar hip hop artists with an array of indie rock tracks to create a mixtape that pushes traditional notions of genre and delivers a mix that showcases rarely heard aspects of each side. this is real life -- available 8.31.10 as a 'pay-what-you-want,' with all profits going to 826 Valencia to benefit youth writing" - Wait What Music
<a href="http://waitwhat.bandcamp.com/track/making-konstantine-cry-jay-z-vs-something-corporate">making konstantine cry (jay-z vs something corporate) by wait what</a>

So here's the story, I love Jay-Z & I'm a huge fan of alternative rock group Something Corporate and especially their 2003 cult-classic 'Konstantine' so imagine my elation when I was over on Pigeons & Planes and I bumped into this mash-up album by Wait What (Charlie Kubal), the uber dope Producer/DJ behind 'The Notorious XX'. Skimming through the tracklist, I found this gem and I have had it on repeat for ever. The End.

Amazing brand new music from The Foreign Exchange. 'Maybe She'll Dream of Me' is the first single off of their forthcoming third album 'Authenticity'. Cannot wait for this album but I was just thinking while I was playing this that Phonte is one of the best emcees out there (if you argue against this, you'll die honestly) & his singing is quite up there, quite high up there even (as far as Rapper/Singer type artists go) BUT still doesn't get enough shine outside hip-hop circles. It's a right shambles... Anyway get your download on right below!

iSingle... Nocturnal vs. I Am One Project - The Movement

"I Am One Project announces the release of an exclusive single created by urban producer Nocturnal through the PC game APB: All Points Bulletin. This is the first time a song has been produced using a PC game and released commercially worldwide. The single, titled ‘The Movement’, has been produced using APB’s in-game music production tool and will be available on iTunes from 13th September 2010. ‘The Movement’ by Nocturnal vs I Am One Project was produced using APB’s music editor. The editor allows players to create either full tracks or 5 second themes. Full tracks can be played in the sandbox world to accompany game play, while a shorter composition will appear as a ‘death theme’ when your character kills another in San Paro." - Press Release

These fellas Nocturnal & I Am One Project made this record using a PC game! Granted I'm not a 'PC game' person & I don't know a thing about APB BUT nothing else can be said about this move. It's ingenious to say the very least and add that to the fact that it's not been done before! Do you know what the trip is? The record sound really good as well! Oli Rose gets me every time with his great and hauntingly unique voice. Make sure you support 'The Movement' when it's released in a couple weeks.

Until the Next Time...

iMixtape... FIZZIE - FIZZICAL EDUCATION FOR DUMMIES

I was listening to this last night and it is actually very dope. It's got the essential mixtape vibe to it so don't expect anything else (there's a lot of song sampling or covers shall I say of your favourite songs). 'Fizzical Education for Dummies' does extremely well to show Fizzie in his element. The wordplay and flow are on point but the punch lines are what gets me hitting the rewind button over again on tracks like 'Light Up the Sky' where he goes '... So I do me like I can't get pussy' or on 'So Hard' where he says rather bashfully 'I'm so hard... Peggy Mitchell of the Yard'. What am I saying? Get to downloading, you'll enjoy this
